What Can You Expect? The Initial Homeopathic Consultation
Your first visit to the homeopathic doctor is very important. This is the time you will have the opportunity to speak about the mental, emotional and physical problems that are keeping you from experiencing wholeness. The interview will take about 2 hours so make your appointment at a time that will be best for you or your child.
If you are having your child evaluated for homeopathic treatment, please be sure to bring a favorite toy and a snack. If you have other children, please provide for their care outside the office. The office is not able to accommodate other children, and it can be quite distracting for the doctor, the parents, and the child patient.
After the interview is concluded, I will spend sufficient time to understand all that you have told me (what we call "studying" your case). I usually do not give the remedy on the same day you come for the consultation. Sometimes I may have to call you on the phone for further information if something is not clear to me.
After I have decided upon the best remedy for you, I will call you. I will either mail it to you, you can come to the office and take the remedy here, or in some cases I will need to order the remedy from a homeopathic pharmacy.
There may be some situations, especially, if I prescribe a liquid potency (what we call LM potencies) for you that you will need to provide a credit card number so the pharmacy will send the remedy directly to you. The cost of LM potencies are quite reasonable, usually less than $20.00 plus shipping. One bottle usually lasts about a month.
I try to have your remedy to you in less than 2 weeks. Then your first follow up will come at 4-6 weeks. During this time of "waiting" for the action of the remedy, please pay attention to how you feel on the mental, emotional and physical level. Also, take notes if it will help you remember symptoms that got worse. Most of us are not very tuned into our body, and this observing may take some conscious effort.
Dreams can also play an important role in helping me understand you at a deeper level. Write down your dreams, especially the "theme" of the dream...every detail is not important.
Commitment
The main factor in homeopathy failing to help people is the failure to make this a commitment. It takes time to do this subtle healing work. Your vital energy will respond according to an appropriate timing. One or two visits to the homeopath is not going to bring you to the greatest level of health possible. Homeopathy is a way of life, a philosophy of wholeness, and can help many people with many different problems, but it will only work if you make a commitment to stay with it.

Working With You to Help Solve Your Health Problem(s)
Those of you who have had prior experience with homeopathy know that the pace can be very different from what we have come to expect from mainstream (allopathic) medicine, especially in chronic cases. What we are aiming for is not simply temporary control of symptoms but lasting improvement of your overall state of health, including control of your unpleasant symptoms.
Our work in homeopathy is very individualized. Every person will express dysfunction in a different way (as a symptom). This is why the homeopathic consultation must be taken with great care and attention to how you are experiencing and expressing different symptoms.
In whatever state of illness you may be experiencing, I will, in partnership with you, do my very best to help you and/or your children to achieve the maximum possible healing through the use of homeopathic medicines. The reason I prefer these medicines is that they have proven to be effective at a deeper level and with less side effects when we have arrived at the correct prescription (the similimum).
I will occasionally prescribe other medicines, such as antibiotics, ONLY when and if I am unable to find the correct homeopathic prescription.
Second Opinions
I encourage you to seek second opinions from other physicians at any time. I encourage you to retain your regular physician. I do not do annual physicals, school physicals, immunizations, etc. When you come to me for help with a chronic condition for which mainstream physicians would use other therapies, please fully inform yourself about the options they offer. In this way you can make the best health care decision for you and your family.
Can You Expect To Be Completely Cured?
As you know, I cannot guarantee that our work together will result in your cure. There are some people who can be helped only partially with homeopathy because of the weakness of their vital force, the severity of the illness, the number of strong drugs they are taking, or insurmountable stresses in their lives.
My Responsibility and Your Responsibility
It is my responsibility to evaluate your progression in the direction of cure and discuss it with you as I try to help you in enhancing your overall health and well-being.
It is your responsibility to communicate clearly with me details about your symptoms and any concern you have about your medical care. It is also your responsibility to develop a healthy lifestyle that includes adequate nutrition, rest, and exercise.
Homeopathy is not a "quick fix", but rather a long-term commitment to better health.
It may be hard to imagine that a single small dose can have effects which extend over weeks, months or even years, but our experience in homeopathy confirms that this is true. Therefore, if you are progressing to a better state of health after a medicine has been given, even if it has been months, it is wise to do nothing to interfere with the effect of the medicine. The known antidotes to homeopathic medicines are listed below.
Antidotes (Agents That Might Interfere With Treatment)
Coffee, including decaffeinated is to be avoided entirely to maximize your opportunity of getting the full benefit of homeopathy. Other things containing caffeine such as various teas are okay.
Camphor, menthol, eucalyptus, peppermint and tea tree oil are found in various cold preparations and cosmetics. Please read the labels and avoids compounds containing these strong substances.
Moderate use of alcohol generally doesn't interfere, nor does tobacco smoking.
If dental work can be anticipated in advance and completed before you take a homeopathic medicine, it will be better. It seems that the drilling or the anesthetics can interfere with the action of homeopathic medicines.
If you use an electric blanket, I recommend you turn it off once the bed is warm before you get into bed.
Some of the allopathic medicines you are taking may be crucial to your health, and we will talk about which ones to continue and which ones to discontinue or taper. This will only be done with your physician's consent and understanding that you are using homeopathy.
Herbal medicines are not pharmaceuticals, but can often work in similar ways. I usually do not recommend using herbs in conjunction with homeopathic treatment. We can discuss these situations on an individual basis.
Aspirin, Tylenol and Ibuprofen used infrequently are probably not a problem.
It is generally best not to suppress fever. Large doses of vitamins taken as medicines to suppress individual symptoms can also interfere with homeopathic remedies.
It is best not to take other homeopathic medicines during the time you are being treated here unless you have an emergency and can't reach me and you know the correct medicine to use.
Other treatments aimed at the energy plane of the body such as polarity therapy, Jin Shin Jyutsu and acupuncture are best avoided during homeopathic treatment.
Aggravating Factors
One may experience feeling worse temporarily (hours or days, but rarely weeks) after the correct homeopathic prescription, particularly in chronic cases (long term illness). This is usually a good indication that the medicine is in resonance or harmony with your system and that changes are beginning to take place in the service of better health.
Old symptoms may also temporarily return in the course of your treatment. This is a natural and important step in your "undoing" of states of illness which you have experienced through your life and ultimately leads to progressively better levels of well-being.
When you are in the office, you will have my full attention so we can cover the areas we need to cover. Please make sure that I have responded to all your questions. It is my greatest desire to assist you in returning to full and vigorous health.
